“The cure for everything is salt water. Sweat, tears and the sea.” So wrote African writer Isak Dinesen. It’s a quote I first read two decades ago and one that has shaped my life. 

From a childhood in Africa, a career in ocean racing, a life as a writer, and the pure pleasure of being a parent, it’s been a charmed run.

As a professional sailor Brian has logged over a quarter million miles including participating in three Whitbread Round the World Races (now the Volvo Ocean Race). He has hiked in Africa, climbed mountains in Tierra del Fuego and come close to drowning off the coast of Brazil.
