For more than three decades I have traveled the world talking about and giving slide shows about my experiences in the Whitbread Round the World Race. I am passionate about offshore sailing and the majesty and beauty of the open ocean, but always felt that the one-dimensional images on a small screen failed to convey what it was really like to be out there plummeting down the face of a fifty foot Southern Ocean roller. Not any more.

Along with my friend Gary Swain and a team of extremely talented filmmakers, we are planning to produce an IMAX movie on the next Volvo Ocean Race. Riding Liquid Mountains will bring to life the thrill and excitement of this premier global sporting event.

I have heard it for years. People have watched my presentations and wished that for just one hour they could be transported out to a Volvo 70 racing through the Southern Ocean. For one hour they could feel what it’s like to sail at 40 knots, see the slate grey sea and sky that characterises the deep south and watch the graceful flight of the wandering albatross. Now, in 3D IMAX, Riding Liquid Mountains will give the average man or woman that chance - without the cost of the helicopter ride out to the boat.
